When will I be offered?
Garages are advertised weekly on the Basildon Choice website.
The bidding cycle opens at 12:01am on Fridays and will close at 11:59pm Mondays when you will be able to log in, view the garages available and submit your bid for a garage you are interested in renting.
You will not need to stay up to bid as garages will be allocated in order of application date, and not on a first come first serve basis.
Adverts will include a map of the location, photos, and measurements of the garage so please make sure you carefully view all details carefully before you place your bid. The garages will be let as shown in the photos, and no modifications can be made by yourself. Please read our Guide to bidding on garages for full details of how to bid.
Once bidding has closed, if you are the successful applicant we will contact you via email and send out the tenancy documents for the garage via DocuSign (our online offer software).
If you do not hear anything in due course after that weeks bidding cycle this means you have not been successful but can continue bidding for garages in the next cycle.
For information, the DocuSign process is set out below:
- You will be sent (via email) a link to an agreement, which you will need to sign electronically
- You will be asked to upload an image of your driving licence as ID
- You will be asked to upload an image of all pages of your vehicle’s V5C document (logbook)
- You will be asked to pay 4 weeks’ rent using our online payment system and to input the 8 digit reference number you are given following successful payment
- You will be asked to set up a direct debit for ongoing monthly payments.
Please note that, if you do not respond within 5 working days of an offer or if any of the steps set out above are not completed, the offer of a garage may be withdrawn, and you may need to submit a new application.
Garage offers are subject to any current or former rent accounts that you hold with Basildon Council being clear. It is your responsibility to maintain this as we will check any account/s you have with us at time of offer and any arrears may result in the offer being withdrawn.
Terms Of Use
Commercial use is not permitted.
You must not sublet a garage/parking bay.
Garages are intended for the storage of a motor vehicle. They are not sufficiently weather tight or secure for the storage of any other goods and you must not store petrol or any flammable materials in a garage.
Anything you do store in the garage (including motor vehicles) is at your own risk and should be covered by your insurance. Basildon Council do not accept liability for any stolen or damaged items kept in a garage.
Garage and Parking Bay Rent Arrears and Evictions
If you do not pay your rent, you will be sent a warning letter.
If no response is received and no payments are made, we will evict you from the garage.
If you have items in the garage, you will be given 7 days to clear them. If no contact is made the items will be disposed of.
Ending A Garage or Parking Bay Rental
If you wish to end your rental, you will need to provide one week’s notice to end your rental.
We will take notice from a Monday and would expect the keys to be returned to us by the following Monday. You will be charged rent until the keys have been returned.
